Purple Crocus Flower Field

5 Flower Field Day Trips From Berkhamsted

On the previous blog I pulled together a list of some of my favourite places to find flower fields near Berkhamsted. This blog follows on from that, and pulls together some of my favourite flower field day trips from Berkhamsted.

Flower field day trips from Berkhamsted

Confetti fields at Pershore

As lockdown eased last summer, we took a day trip to the Confetti Fields, located on the outskirts of Worcester. The confetti plants are beautiful, but there are also a range of other flowers grown alongside including sunflowers.

The fields are only open to visitors for 2 weeks each summer, the exact dates vary each year but it’s normally at the end of June / beginning of July. Tickets are available to buy as soon as the dates are known. There’s a coffee shop on site, as well as a small number of vintage tractors to look at.

Crocuses at Kew

Crocuses are one of the first flowers to bloom each spring, and the display of them at Kew Gardens is particularly stunning.

Tulips in Norfolk

A few years ago now, I spent a spring living in the Netherlands. One of the highlights of my trip were the stunning tulip fields found there. The Tulip Fields in Norfolk are a 2 hour drive from Berkhamsted. This is the furthest of all the flower field day trips from Berkhamsted I’ve listed here. It’s a lot closer than going to the Netherlands however! The tulip fields open for a week each year, normally at the end of April.

Azaleas – Kenwood House

Situated at the edge of Hampstead Heath, the gardens of Kenwood House are a delight at any time of the year. The bright colours of the Azaleas can’t fail to brighten even the most dreary of days. Entry is free, however pre-booked tickets are required at the moment to manage visitor numbers.

Wisteria – Hampstead Heath

Another location that is has stunning flowers is the Pergola.  The Pergola is tucked away at the west side of the Heath, and is reported to have been built using the leftover materials from the nearby building of the Hampstead extension of the Northern line to cut transport costs. The Pergola is well worth a visit, especially in early May when the Wisteria flowers.

Do you have any favourite flower field day trips from Berkhamsted? I’d love to hear about more places to explore.
